Engaging Communication Crossroads

There are many ideas published about the importance of information and the role it plays in personal and professional success. Yes, information is vital when planning strategies and actions, but there is something else that also must be considered. Communication is of equal importance. The issue that is so often overlooked is that information without communication is useless. If the exact information that will be the solution of the problem is available, but it can’t be transmitted, then that information might as well not exist. Consider how you make decisions. What do you need to know in order to take action? What action should you take? If you have the right information you can accomplish anything. But, how do you get that information? Here are the crossroads. Information and communication intersect to provide the markers that guide your path. In fact, to achieve success, one must have both information and communication. They are two sides of the same coin, yin, and yang. One cannot exist without the other. So, the formula for success in any endeavor is how do you communicate the right information, in the right way, to the right people to achieve success. Of course, how to accumulate the right information is another issue? We’ll talk about that in another article. For now, how do you determine what information you need to make a decision? Is the method used, the same for every situation or must it be altered to fit each new challenge? Who needs to get the information? How will they use the information? How can the actions be monitored to ensure that the information is being used properly? There are so little time and so many issues to be addressed. How can you keep up with your profession and learn a whole new profession and conduct relevant and valuable research at the same time? There is a way, but first. The need for viable information and communication system must be recognized.
